Kyla Dennison

I started working with the Read “Write” adult literacy program as a volunteer in July of 2011. I helped with the newsletter and special programs like Bingo. In November of 2014, I became a board member. I decided to get involved with the Read “Write” Adult Literacy Program for two reasons. The first reason is because many of my friends in school are first generation Americans. Their parents did not speak English and did not have their citizenship. This program has helped many individuals to learn to speak English and get their citizenship. The second reason is when I worked at a childcare center I had second graders who did not know how to read, this broke my heart. Later I found out that their parents did not know how to read either. Many times if the parents read or show a love for reading their children learn to read and follow their parents in this reading habit. I believe that the Read “Write” Adult Literacy Program helps support these individuals as well as many others.

A little bit about me: I am currently going to school to be an Elementary School Teacher. I have found that I love educating our future leaders. I come from the Dennisson family in Stanley and look to them for their strong morals and ethics in doing the best they can at everything they do. I love reading almost all genres of books but especially the classics. I also enjoy painting, drawing, sculpting, and all other medias of art. Currently I am enjoying writing stories that some day may or may not get published as children’s books. I am currently a preschool teacher in Estancia, before that I was the Children’s Librarian for the Moriarty Community Library.

Margie Olivas

I was invited to attend the Annual Board Retreat on September 6, 2014, as a guest.  I attended my first Board meeting on November 6, 2014. I am a Board Member and have the responsibility of maintaining the RWALP website. I am on the Personnel Committee and will be working with Myrtle and Marge to update the Personnel Manual. I will also be assisting Tina with grants.

I have long desired to contribute to my community and, since I am recently retired, I now have the time. I have previous work experience and knowledge that will benefit the program and my community. I am excited about the learning opportunities this will provide for me. I am so happy to be working with Tina, and Jace again, and to form a working relationship with the entire Board and staff. RWALP is a top notch program that provides invaluable services to our community. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of RWALP.

I am married to Mark, a retired law enforcement officer, and we have two daughters, Leslie and Lauren. I used to sew and I plan to start that up again soon. I enjoy reading, camping, fishing, and road trips! I am a member of Crossroads Bible Fellowship Church, and I am active in serving. I am working with others to begin a bible study life group that will focus on reaching out to those in need in the church and the community. I worked in administrative and office support positions for many years. In the private sector, I worked for US West Communications for 15 years. In 1995, I opted to take advantage of a voluntary separation package so I could stay home with my daughters and be able to better help my mother. As it turns out, the City of Moriarty was hiring at that time, and I began a 17 year long career in government. I retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in July, 2014.

Ashley Williams

I entered into the Read “Write” Adult Literacy Program in September of last year at the Board Retreat, and I am the Liaison for the Moriarty Community Library. I decided to become involved with the program because I believe it is a great cause, and that our children’s program at the library will be of use to the children of the parents participating in the Read “Write” Program. My husband Travis and I moved to the East Mountains in 2010 to his family’s property, where they homesteaded over 100 years ago. We now have a beautiful one year old daughter, Hailey Marie, whom we are proud to bring up in this great community.

As for my hobbies, I enjoy reading a good book whenever I get a quiet moment to myself. I also enjoy watching movies and binge watching television shows with my hubby. We also like to camp, fish, and swim when the weather allows. I am a University of New Mexico Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. I worked in the Moriarty Historical Museum and Society for a short period in 2013, as an intern working with the World War II collection and display. I am currently the designated Children’s Librarian for the Moriarty Community Library.
